Use case for variables: Display the contact's name in an email

Design a strategy that sends personalized content through a dynamic email and a workflow. This allows emails to be sent to each contact personalized with their name, staying up to date, which improves conversions.

In this article, you will learn how to personalize an email with the name of the contact it is sent to.

STEP 1: Creating the variable in the email editor

1. From the left side menu, go to Content and create a new email.

2. Customize the appearance of your email to your liking.

3. Include a text block where you will insert the variable.

 

When creating variables, there are a number of rules, such as not using accents, the letter “ñ”, etc. These are HTML language rules, so to ensure proper creation, you should use the dedicated button.


4. To insert the variable, click on More options > Variables.

5. In the pop-up window, define the name of the variable you want to create and by which you will identify it later, and the default value to be used if that information is not available in the Contact Sheet.

6. Click Accept, and continue designing your email to suit your strategy.

7. Once you’ve finished your email content, click ✔ Save.

STEP 2: Creating and designing the workflow

8. Go to Workflows and click Create new workflow.

9. In the configuration of the “Start” node, under Select limitation, choose Entire list and in the dropdown select Contacts with email to send to the contacts in your list with an email.

10. After that node, connect the “Send Email” node.

11. Open the configuration of the “Send Email” node and select the email you created in the previous step.

12. In the last step of configuring this node, Variables, identify the elements to relate. To do this, drag the desired data from the list obtained from previous nodes (left column) to the corresponding central column, to establish the relationship with the variable created in the dynamic content (right column).

 

In our example, we will need to associate the contact's name with the variable.

13. Click Apply.

14. Save and activate your workflow to start sending your personalized email with the user’s name.

 

This will be the appearance of your email.

Success!
The contact's name will be displayed in your email using the created variable.
