Migrating your eCommerce to Shopify involves changes to your website that may affect your Connectif integration. Reviewing the affected settings before publishing the new website will allow you to maintain data collection and workflow functionality.
In this article, you will learn how to prepare Connectif for migrating your eCommerce to Shopify.
Before you start
Before making changes in Connectif, check the following aspects of your new Shopify website:
- Whether your eCommerce domain will change.
- Whether the URL structure will change.
- Whether your product identifiers (IDs) will change.
- The date on which the new website will be published.
With this information, you will be able to identify which settings and workflows you need to update.
STEP 1. Connectif integration with Shopify
(In this section, you will integrate Connectif with your new eCommerce and check that it correctly collects its activity.)
1. Integrate Connectif with your new Shopify website by following the steps in our Guide to integrating with Shopify.
2. Once the setup is complete, check that the integration is working correctly.
STEP 2. Product catalog management
2.1. Last catalog update
(This section explains how to update the Connectif catalog with the most recent information from the previous platform.)
3. Before importing the catalog from your new Shopify website, perform one last bulk synchronization of your previous CMS catalog with Connectif:
- Go to “Ecommerce > Catalog” from your Connectif Store.
- Click Product synchronization.
- If you use synchronization via Web Scraping, enable Include discontinued products.
- Run an immediate synchronization and wait for it to finish.
2.2. Managing products from the previous catalog
(This section explains how to manage products from the previous catalog based on the information you want to keep in Connectif.)
4. Create a segment to identify products that were not updated during the last synchronization:
- Go to “E-commerce > Product segments”.
- Click Create segment.
- Name it “Old products”.
- Under Conditions, filter by “Update date”.
- Select the “Is later than or equal to” operator and enter the date of the last synchronization.
- Click Save and close.
- Back in the product segment list, locate the segment you just created and click View products to check the products included.
6. Once the synchronization is complete, decide how you want to manage the products from the previous catalog:
-
Keep the entire catalog
-
In the segment list, click More and select Export.
- Once exported, edit the CSV and import them again as Discontinued.
-
-
Completely delete the previous catalog
- If you do not want to keep any products from the previous catalog, delete all products from the Connectif catalog by following the instructions in this article.
- If you do not want to keep any products from the previous catalog, delete all products from the Connectif catalog by following the instructions in this article.
2.3. Adding and checking the Shopify catalog
(This section explains how to add Shopify products and check their identifiers and URLs in Connectif.)
7. Import the products from your new Shopify store to update the Connectif catalog with information from the new platform by following the steps in this article.
8. In your Connectif Store, go to “E-commerce > Catalog” and check the product pages to make sure your products have the correct URLs for the new Shopify website.
2.4. Updating the “Get products” nodes
(This section explains how to update the conditions of workflows that depend on previous product IDs.)
9. If the IDs have changed, review the “Get products” nodes in your workflows:
- Go to the workflow and locate the “Get products” nodes.
- Click (Edit node settings).
- Click Next to access the settings.
- Under “Configure the conditions to define a specific set of products”, check whether there is a condition based on the product’s “External ID”.
- If the condition contains the previous ID, replace that value with the new product ID in Shopify.
- If the node has an additional use case configured, also review its conditions.
- Click Apply.
STEP 3. Configuring your store domain
3.1. Authorized domains
(This section explains how to check whether Connectif can receive information from your new eCommerce domain.)
10. If the domain is different from that of your previous website, go to “Store settings > Web”. If you use Authorized domains, add the new website’s domain before publishing it.
3.2. Domain authentication
(This section explains how to authenticate the new email domain if emails will be sent from a different domain than the one previously authenticated.)
11. If the domain used to send email campaigns will change, go to “Store settings > Channels > Email” and authenticate it from the “Domain authentication” tab by following the steps in this article.
STEP 4. Updating your email sender
(This section explains how to check whether Connectif can receive information from your new eCommerce domain.)
12. In the Connectif Workflows area, review the “Send email” nodes in your active workflows.
13. If the sender has changed, update it in the settings of those nodes:
- Click (Edit node settings) on the “Send email” node.
- Under Settings, select the email you want to send and click Next.
- Configure the Parameters section of "Send to contact".
- In the “From email” and “Reply-to email” sections, update the address with the new sender.
- Click Apply.
STEP 5. Updating active workflows
(This section explains how to review active workflows that may be affected by URL changes on the new website.)
14. In Shopify, go to “Products > Inventory” and click any product in your catalog. In the “Search engine listing” section, check whether the URLs on your new Shopify website have the same structure as those in your previous CMS.
Changing a domain or URL without updating the settings that depend on them may cause your workflows to stop working correctly.
15. Go to the Workflows area of Connectif.
16. Review your active workflows to identify nodes that use a URL, path, or specific page from your eCommerce. Pay particular attention to:
- The “On page visit” node when configured to detect a specific URL.
- Nodes that include conditions based on a URL or path on your website.
- Nodes that compare or filter by a specific page on your eCommerce.
17. Update the URLs or conditions that have changed on your new Shopify page.
STEP 6. Reviewing inline content
(This section explains how to check and modify the CSS selectors used to insert Connectif inline content on the new Shopify page.)
18. Review the “Send web content” nodes in your workflows that use inline content:
- Go to the workflow and locate the “Send web content” nodes.
- Click (Edit node settings).
- Click Next to access the settings.
19. Go to your Shopify page and check that the configured CSS selector still points to the correct element.
20. If the selector has changed, return to Connectif and update it from the settings of the “Send web content” node:
- Replace the previous CSS selector with the new one.
- Click Apply.
STEP 7. Removing synchronization URLs
(This section explains how to remove the URLs used to synchronize subscription changes with the previous platform.)
21. In your Connectif Store, go to “Store settings > E-commerce platforms > E-commerce” and select the CMS you had integrated with Connectif before Shopify.
22. In the Advanced settings section, delete the subscription notification URLs for that integration.
Final checks
Before publishing your new Shopify store, briefly review and check that:
- The Connectif integration with Shopify is working correctly.
- The new domain is included in Authorized domains, if you use this setting.
- Workflows that depend on URLs have been updated.
- Inline content displays correctly in the new store.
- The product IDs and URLs are correct.
- The catalog is up to date in Connectif if the products’ IDs or URLs have changed.
- The synchronization URLs for the previous platform have been removed.
- The email sender and domain have been updated if they have changed.
- Connectif is ready to start collecting data when you publish the new store.
