Adding consent links for email tracking pixels allows your contacts to consent to or deny the recording of their opens and clicks. This way, they can manage their tracking preference directly from the emails they receive.
In this article, you will learn how to add links both in the footer and in the body of your emails to allow your contacts to consent to or deny the tracking of the emails they receive.
STEP 1. Activating email tracking privacy
1. Go to “Store settings > Channels > Email”.
2. In the “Email Tracking Privacy” section, turn on the Enable email tracking privacy toggle.
3. In the pop-up window, under “Existing contacts”, select the “Email tracking consent” status that you want to assign to the contacts that already exist in your store.
4. Under “New contacts”, select the status that you want to assign by default to contacts created from that point onward.
5. Click Apply settings to apply your selection and close the settings window.
6. Click Save to apply the changes to email tracking privacy.
STEP 2. Adding the consent link
Using a link in the email footer

7. Go to “Content > My emails” and, in any email where you want to add the link, click More and select Edit. You can also access the editor from the “Send email” node of a workflow.
8. In the Tools panel, click the Components tab and add a new Text component to the email footer
9. Enter the text where you will add the consent link, select it, and click Add link.
10. In the pop-up window, enter #__cn_grant_email_tracking_consent in the “URL” field.
11. In the “Display text” and “Title” fields, enter the text you want to use to identify the link. For example, “Accept email tracking”.
12. Click Save to apply the link settings. This way, when a contact clicks the button, their consent status will be updated.
13. Back in the editor, click Save to keep the changes to your email.
Using a button in the body of the email

14. In the email editor, in the Tools panel, click the Components tab and add a Button component to the email.
15. Click the button or Edit element to access its settings.
16. In the Button link field, click Add predefined link.
17. In the pop-up window, select “Give consent to email tracking”.
18. Click Accept. This way, when the contact clicks the button, their consent status will be updated.
19. Back in the editor, click Save to keep the changes to the email.
