Help your customers find the products they previously viewed to shorten buying time and increase your chances of making a sale, through a product banner on your website’s home page.
In this article, you’ll learn how to create a recommender banner on the homepage.
How it works
To display the banner, we will configure an inline web content in the workflow that appears on the page when a contact is visiting your website’s homepage. Depending on how many products they have previously viewed, different products will be shown.
Workflow configuration
STEP 1. "Start" Node
(This node will define the audience to whom the action is directed).
1. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Start” node.
2. In Select a restriction, check "Entire list".
3. In Select the data source, check "All existing and new".
4. Click Apply.
STEP 2. "On page visit" Node
(This node will detect contacts visiting the website's "Home" page).
5. Click (Edit node settings) for the “On page visit” node.
6. In Configure the included pages, choose “Any of the following exact pages” and enter your website's homepage URL in the provided field.
7. Click Limitations and uncheck "Deactivate after triggering".
8. Click Apply.
STEP 3. First "Get products" node
(This node retrieves the last products visited by the contact).
9. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Get products” node.
10. To select the use cases, drag "Last visited products" to the right block and click Next .
11. In Main case configuration, select "12" under Number of products to retrieve.
12. Click Next .
13. In the Summary section, locate Number of products to retrieve and set it to “12”. Then uncheck “Fill products up to selected limit”.
14. Click Apply .
STEP 4. "Check value" Node
(This node checks if the size of the recommended product list is greater than 4).
15. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Check value” node.
16. Drag the "List size" field from "Get products" to the left block.
17. In the Operator column, select "Is greater than or equal to".
18. Drag the "Literal" field to the right block and set a value of "4".
19. Click Apply.
STEP 5. "Made a purchase" Node
(This node identifies whether the contact has made a purchase before the visit).
20. At the connection from the previous node, click the circle until "Yes" appears.
21. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Made a purchase” node.
22. In Number of purchases made, select "Is greater than" and set it to "0" purchases.
23. Click Apply.
STEP 6. Second "Get products" node
(This node retrieves the last products purchased by the contact).
24. At the connection from the previous node, click the circle until "Yes" appears.
25. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Get products” node.
26. To select the use cases, drag "Last purchased products" to the right block and click Next .
27. In Main case configuration, select "8" under Number of products to retrieve.
28. Click Next .
29. In the Summary section, locate Number of products to retrieve and enter “8”. Uncheck "Fill with products up to selected limit".
30. Click Apply .
STEP 7. Third "Get products" node
(This node retrieves products recommended based on the contact’s last purchases).
31. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Get products” node.
32. To select the use cases, drag "Automatically related to a product list" to the right block and "Best-selling products" to the additional use case. Click Next .
33. In Main case configuration, select "8" for Number of products to retrieve.
34. In Select related product, choose “Get last purchased products” and click Next .
35. In Additional case configuration, select "8" in Number of products to retrieve.
36. In Select the purchase time period, choose "Best sellers of the last 3 months" and click Next .
37. In the Summary section, locate Number of products to retrieve and set it to “8”. Uncheck "Fill with products up to selected limit".
STEP 8. First "Send web content: inline" node
(This node will send, to contacts who made a purchase, an inline with products automatically related to those purchased).
38. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Send web content” node.
39. Select the corresponding Inline content and click Next .
40. In Configuration, add the appropriate selector to display the content.
41. In the Variables step, link the variables if any are needed.
42. Click Apply .
STEP 9. Second "Send web content: inline" node
(This node sends an inline with the last visited products).
43. At the connection from the "Made a purchase" node, click the circle until "No" appears.
44. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Send web content” node.
45. Select the corresponding Inline content and click Next .
46. In Configuration, add the appropriate selector to display the content.
47. In the Variables step, link the variables if any are needed.
48. Click Apply .
STEP 10. Fourth "Get products" node
(This node retrieves the most visited products in the last month, based on the visited product’s category and brand).
49. At the connection from the "Check value" node, click the circle until "No" appears.
50. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Get products” node.
51. To select the use cases, drag "Most visited products" to the right block and click Next .
52. In Main case configuration, select "12" under Number of products to retrieve.
53. In Select the visit time period, choose "Most visited in the last month" and check "Randomly reorder the retrieved products". Click Next .
54. In the Summary section, locate Number of products to retrieve and set it to “12”. Then, check "Exclude products exported by previous nodes".
55. Click Apply .
STEP 11. Third "Send web content: inline" node
(This node will send, to contacts who have viewed fewer than 4 products, an inline containing the most visited products of the last month).
56. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Send web content” node.
57. Select the corresponding Inline content and click Next .
58. In Configuration, add the appropriate selector to display the content.
59. In the Variables step, link the variables if applicable.
60. Click Apply .
