ABX tests allow you to discover which strategy works best for your customers. Testing two different popups to gather newsletter subscriptions and to find out which gets the best results will help you increase your subscriber base.
In this article you’ll learn how to optimize acquisition popups with an ABX test.
How it works
In order to test the recruitment popups, we’ll create an ABX test in a workflow that compares different newsletter subscription popups and then choose the one with the best results.
Workflow configuration
STEP 1. "Start" node
(This node will set the target audience for the action).
1. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Start” node.
2. Under Select limitation, check "All my list".
3. Under Select data source, check “All existing and new”.
4. Click Update.
STEP 2. “On page visit” node
(This node will detect contacts who visit any page).
5. Click (Edit node settings) in the “On page visit” node.
6. Click on Limitations and check that the "Disable after triggering" checkbox is active.
7. Click Update.
STEP 3. “Check value” node
(This node will check if the contact is subscribed to the newsletter).
8. Click (Edit node settings) of the “Check value” node.
9. Drag the "Newsletter subscription status" field from "Contact" to the block on the left.
10. Under Operator, select "Is selected”.
11. Drag the "Literal" value to the block on the right and select "Subscribed".
12. Click Update.
STEP 4. “Start A/B/X test” node
(This node will start the ABX test).
13. At the junction of this node with the previous one, click on the circle until "No" appears.
14. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Start A/B/X” node.
15. In Sampling stage, set the "Maximum limit of contacts to be sampled". In this case, "1000”.
16. Click Update.
STEP 5. “Send web content: popup" node
(This node will send a popup with one of the versions of the newsletter subscription form).
17. Click (Edit node settings) in the “Send web content” node.
18. Select the corresponding Popup content and click Next .
19. In this case, check "Immediately".
20. In the Variables step, link any variables there may be.
21. Click Complete .
STEP 6. “On form submission” node
(This node will detect the moment when the form is sent).
22. Click (Edit node settings) in the “On form submission” node.
23. Click on A specific form.
24. Next, select the form you want the workflow to react to. In this case, the form shown in the previous popup.
25. Click on Limitations and check that the "Disable after triggering" checkbox is active.
26. Click Update.
STEP 7. “Evaluate A/B/X branch” node
(This node will award a point to the branch if the contact's click on the indicated link is detected).
27. Click (Edit node settings) in the “Evaluate A/B/X” node.
28. Select "Literal value" and type "1".
29. Click Update.
