Birthday greeting seven days in advance

Wish your customers a happy birthday by sending them a discount coupon a week before their special day. 

In this article, you’ll learn how to create an automatic email with coupon seven days before the contact's birthday.

This strategy is part of our pool of templates. To implement it in your account, access your Connectif account and go to “Workflows Create new workflow”. In the Create from template section, enter the name of the workflow in the search engine (Birthday greeting 7 days before) then click Select and Create.

How it works

To create an automated email campaign that sends each contact a birthday discount coupon seven days before their birthday, set up a dynamic plus segment with this configuration. If the contact does not make a purchase during those seven days, send a second reminder email.

Workflow configuration

  

Before configuring your workflow, create the following elements:
- The dynamic plus segment "7 days before birthday", to group the contacts to whom you want to send the birthday email in advance.
- A coupon, to send the discount.
- Two emails, one to send the birthday coupon seven days in advance and the other to remind you on the day of the birthday.

STEP 1. "Start" node

(This node will set the target audience for the action).

1. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Start” node.

2. Under Select limitation, check "All my list" and select "Contacts with email".

3. Under Select data source, check “All existing and new”.

4. Click Update.

STEP 2. "On entering segment" node

(This node will enter contacts into the workflow as soon as they join the "7 days before birthday" segment).

5. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Is in segment” node.

6. Under Select a segment, choose the segment created.

7. Click Update.

STEP 3. “Assign coupon” node

(This node will fetch the coupon that will be sent in the emails).

8. Click (Edit node settings) in the “Assign coupon” node.

9. Select the set of coupons created for this workflow.

10. Click Complete .

STEP 4. First “Send email” node

(This node will send the greetings email with the coupon seven days before the birthday.).

11. Click (Edit node settings) in the “Send email” node.

12. Select the email you want to send and click Next .

13. In the Send to section, select "Contact".

14. Indicate the "Newsletter" type of email.

15. Configure the parameters section of "Send to contact".

16. Under Google Analytics, click "Enable Google Analytics" then Next .

17. Click Complete .

STEP 5. "Wait" node

(This node will initiate a waiting period before continuing the workflow).

18. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Wait” node.

19. Under Set the time delay, select "A period of time" and enter "7" Days.

20. Click Update.

STEP 6. "Has purchased" node

(This node will identify if the contact has made a purchase during the waiting period).

21. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Has purchased” node.

22. Under Number of purchases made, select "Is greater than" and set "0" purchases.

23. In the next dropdown, select “In the last time interval” and set a value of "7" Days.

24. Click Update.

STEP 7. Second “Send email” node

(This node will send the greetings email with the coupon seven days before the birthday.).

25. Click (Edit node settings) in the “Send email” node.

26. Select the email you want to send and click Next .

27. In the Send to section, select "Contact".

28. Indicate the "Newsletter" type of email.

29. Configure the parameters section of "Send to contact".

30. Under Google Analytics, click "Enable Google Analytics" then Next .

31. Click Complete .
