Email & Newsletter Status

When it's time to decide if an email is sent to a particular contact, there are two fields from that contact that Connectif will check:

  • Email status
  • Newsletter subscription status

Both fields can be consulted from the profile page of each contact ("Contacts > View All > Details"):

Email status

This field can have the following values:

  • Active
  • Bounced
  • Banned
  • Paused

The "Active" value indicates that the contact's email is considered as such. Therefore, it can receive transactional emails (the newsletter emails can be sent if the contact has the value "subscribed" in "Newsletter subscription status"). If this field has any other value that is not "Active", Connectif won't ever send any emails to that contact.

The value "Bounced" is managed internally by Connectif. That means that, when an email is sent and the system detects that it has rebounded from the mail inbox, it marks the contact automatically to prevent it from happening again.

It's important to point out that there are two types of bounce:

  • Soft Bounce: it refers to an email that has bounced because the destined inbox was full. When the same email address reaches 5 soft bounces, the status will change to "Banned" and it won't receive any more emails.
  • Hard Bounce: it refers to an email that has bounced because the address was not valid. It happens when the provided address doesn't exist or the domain is incorrect. In this case, the status will automatically change to "Banned".

The "Paused" status isn't assigned to a contact unless it's done via workflow. It has to be using the node "Set Attribute".  This status can be used for whatever the user of Connectif wants to do with it, and makes it so emails can't be sent to the contacts.

Newsletter subscription status

This field can have the following values:

  • Subscribed
  • Unsubscribed
  • Not Subscribed

The "Subscribed" value indicates that the contact has given permission to receive emails of the newsletter type. In that case, Connectif is allowed to send such emails. Keep in mind that the "Email status" needs to be "Active" for that to happen.

The "Not Subscribed" value implies that the contact has never given permission to receive emails of the newsletter type. Because of that, the contact couldn't have given permission to stop receiving them.

The "Unsubscribed" value indicates that the contact has given permission to stop receiving emails of the newsletter type. In that case, Connectif won't send more emails of that kind to that particular contact. This value sets up automatically when one of the following two scenarios occur:

  • There is an ecommerce integrated with Connectif and the contact unsubscribes in that ecommerce's page.
  • The contact receives an email and then clicks the special link provided by Connectif "#__cn_unsubscribe". This works as a confirmation that the contact doesn't want more emails of this kind. This information will be updated in the integrated ecommerce as well. The special link can be found in the footer section of any email, as seen in the following image:

Select the email type in "Send Email" node

In the settings of the node "Send Email", when you check the option to send to contact, you can choose if the email is a transactional or newsletter type.
