Cleaning up your contact lists helps you to exponentially improve your email campaign results. Refining your lists, both before importing them into your account and on a regular basis, will help you optimize your budget by only targeting active customers.
In this article, you'll learn how to clean up your contact lists.
How it works
To weed out inactive contacts, we'll segment all contacts who haven't opened emails or made a purchase for more than 90 days and were created more than sixty days ago. In future newsletter mailings, we may use this segment to exclude them.
Workflow configuration
STEP 1. "Start" node
(This node will set the target audience for the action).
1. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Start” node.
2. In Select limitation, check "All my list" and select the option "Contacts with email" from the drop-down menu.
3. Under Select data source, check “All existing and new”.
4. Click Update.
STEP 2. "Has opened email" node
(This node will identify contacts who haven't opened an email for more than a year.)
5. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Has opened email” node.
6. Under Number of times an email has been opened..., check "Any email", select "Is greater than" in the drop-down menu, and add the value "0" in the next field.
7. In the next section, in the dropdown, select “In the last time interval” and, in the Days field, set a value of "90".
8. Click Update.
STEP 3. "Has purchased" node
(This node will identify contacts who have not made a purchase for year, in addition to not having opened an email in that same period).
9. At the junction of this node with the previous one, click on the circle until "No" appears.
10. Click (Edit node settings) for the “Has purchased” node.
11. In the Has purchased... section select "Greater than" from the dropdown menu and add the value "0" in the next field.
12. In the next section, in the dropdown, select “In the last time interval” and, in the Days field, set a value of "90".
13. Click Update.
STEP 4. “Check value” node
(This node will identify contacts from the previous filtering that were created more than 60 days ago).
14. At the junction of this node with the previous one, click on the circle until "No" appears.
15. Click (Edit node settings) in the “Check value” node.
16. In the left block, expand the "Contact" node, click on the "Date created" field and drag to the center block ("Left").
17. In the middle block, open the "Operator" field and select "Is in the last".
18. In the right block, click on the "Literal" field and drag to the center block ("Right"). In the two new fields that appear, add the value "60" and select "Days" from the drop-down menu.
19. Click Update.
STEP 5. “Add to segment” node
(This node will add contacts that meet all three conditions to the previously created segment.)
20. At the junction of this node with the previous one, click on the circle until "No" appears.
21. Click (Edit node settings) in the "Add to segment" node.
22. Under Select a segment, choose the segment created previously from the dropdown menu.
23. Click Update.
