Brilliant is the AI sales expert for eCommerce that accompanies your customers throughout the purchasing process to help them find products, answer questions, compare options, and discover related recommendations. It is available at different points across your website and uses information from your catalog and business to provide assistance tailored to each customer.
In this article, you will learn how to install Brilliant on your Shopify website, complete its initial setup, activate it for your customers, and verify that it is working correctly.
Before you begin: prerequisites
To install Brilliant on your Shopify website, you will need:
- An active online store on the Shopify platform.
- Administrator permissions or sufficient permissions to install apps and edit your online store's theme.
- A theme compatible with Shopify app extensions, such as Online Store 2.0 themes (for example, Dawn).
STEP 1. Installing Brilliant
1. From your Shopify website's admin panel, go to “Apps > Shopify App Store”.
2. Enter “Brilliant: AI Sales Expert” in the search bar and open the app.
3. Click Install to install it on your Shopify website.
4. Review the permissions Brilliant needs to work and click Install again to accept and complete the installation.
STEP 2. Initial Brilliant setup
(In this section, you will learn how to complete Brilliant's initial setup and activate it in your Shopify website's theme.)
5. Once installed, Shopify will redirect you to the Brilliant dashboard. Click Get started to begin the setup.
6. Click Activate in Shopify .
7. When Brilliant detects the activation and enables the button, click Continue installation .
STEP 3. Catalog processing
(In this section, you will learn how to check the progress of your website's catalog processing and preview Brilliant before activating it for your customers.)
8. After clicking Continue installation , Brilliant will begin processing your catalog.
9. Click Preview to see the preview.
STEP 4. Configuring Brilliant in your eCommerce theme
(In this section, you will learn how to configure how Brilliant appears in your Shopify website's theme.)
10. From the Shopify admin panel, go to "Online store > Themes".
11. Find the published theme and click Edit theme.
12. In the top bar on the left, go to the App embeds tab.
13. Activate the Brilliant app and configure the following options:
- “Main bubble > Enabled”: enables or disables Brilliant's main bubble on your website.
- “Horizontal position”: select whether the bubble will appear on the left or right.
- “Horizontal margin”: set the bubble's horizontal margin.
- “Vertical margin”: set the bubble's vertical margin.
- “Z-index”: set the bubble's display priority relative to the other elements on the website.
- “Show welcome message”: enable or disable the welcome message.
- “Different settings on mobile?”: specify whether you will use different settings for mobile devices.
- “Bubble on product cards > Enabled”: enable or disable the Brilliant bubble on product cards.
- “Horizontal margin”: set the bubble's horizontal margin on product cards.
- “Vertical margin”: set the bubble's vertical margin on product cards.
14. Click Save to apply the changes.
STEP 5. Recommended Brilliant customization
5.1. Configuring Brilliant's design
(In this step, you will learn how to customize Brilliant's design to match your business's visual identity.)
15. From the Brilliant dashboard, click Design.
16. In the right sidebar, configure the following options:
- “Colors”: set your business's primary color to generate the color palette Brilliant will use.
- “Buttons”: set the buttons' border radius and font transformation (default or uppercase).
- “Fonts”: set your brand's font. On your website, it will use the font configured for your website. Changes do not apply.

“Logo”: attach your brand's logo.
- “Icons”: define the icon used to display Brilliant on your website.
- “Product card”: customize the style of the product cards displayed by Brilliant.
“Full-screen window”: adjust the assistant's size and corners in the desktop version.
17. Once you have configured the design, click Save to apply the changes.
5.2. Configuring your business profile
(In this section, you will learn how to review the information about your business that Brilliant will use to provide answers and recommendations tailored to your eCommerce business.)
18. From the Brilliant dashboard, go to “Train your AI > Business profile”.
19. Review the description and industry Brilliant suggested for your business, and complete the information.
20. Click Save to apply the changes.
5.3. Configuring the knowledge base and behavior
(In this section, you will learn how to configure the information and guidelines Brilliant will use to respond to your customers.)
21. From the Brilliant dashboard, go to “Train your AI > Knowledge base”.
22. Select the blogs and pages on your website, or add content that Brilliant can use as a source of information.
23. Once configured, go to “Train your AI > Behavior” from the right sidebar.
24. Under Guidelines, define Brilliant's tone, style, and response format so that they reflect your website's identity.
25. Under Response style, define how much detail to include and how the response is presented in your website's chat.
26. Click Save to apply the changes.
5.4. Configuring product management
(In this section, you will learn how to define which products from your catalog you want to highlight or exclude in Brilliant.)
27. From the Brilliant dashboard, go to “Catalog > Product management”.
28. Use Shopify tags to configure the products you want to:
- Identify as new arrivals.
- Highlight in searches.
- Exclude from Brilliant so they do not appear in its results and recommendations.
29. Click Save to apply the changes.
5.5. Configuring skills
(In this section, you will learn how to review the Brilliant skills that will be available to your customers.)
30. From the Brilliant dashboard, go to Skills.
31. Under How Brilliant appears in your store review how Brilliant will appear to your customers and configure the available elements:
- “Main bubble”: allows your customers to access the assistant from anywhere on the website to get answers and receive help during the purchasing process.
- “Similar products carousel”: displays related alternatives to the product being viewed on the product page to help customers find other options.
- “Products that go well together carousel”: displays products that complement the product being viewed on the product page, making it easier to discover related products and increasing average cart value.
- “Suggested questions”: displays frequently asked questions about the product being viewed to make it easier to start a conversation with Brilliant.
32. Under Customize your assistant's skills, review the available capabilities and enable or disable the ones you want to use:
- “Smart search”: interprets the customer's natural language and displays the most relevant products from the catalog.
- “Product analysis”: answers questions about product features, materials, and uses.
- “Similar products”: displays alternatives with a similar style or similar features to the product being viewed.
- “Products that go well together”: recommends complementary items that go with the product being viewed.
- “Product bundles”: suggests product combinations in a bundle to make it easier to purchase items together.
- “Comparison”: compares several products to help customers choose the option that best suits their needs.
- “Ask about my order”: allows customers to check the status, tracking, and details of their orders.
- “Products in catalog images”: allows customers to select visible items in catalog images to find similar products or combinations.
- “Search by image”: allows customers to upload an image, select visible items, and find similar products or combinations.
STEP 6. Activating Brilliant for customers

33. Go to Home in Brilliant and click Make visible in your store.
34. Click Show Brilliant to enable it in your eCommerce store.
STEP 7. Checking functionality
(In this section, you will learn how to verify that Brilliant is installed and working correctly in your eCommerce store.)
35. Go to your website and check that Brilliant's main bubble appears.
36. Click the bubble and verify that the assistant opens.
37. In the conversation box, submit a query and verify that Brilliant responds using information from your catalog.
38. Close the assistant and navigate to a page displaying product cards to verify that the Brilliant bubble appears over them.
Frequently asked questions
1. The "Start installation" button is disabled
Brilliant has not yet detected that “Brilliant Control Center” is active in your website's theme. Verify that you activated it and clicked Save in Shopify's theme editor.
Then, return to Brilliant. The status will update automatically when it detects the configuration.
2. The “Preview” button is disabled
The preview will be available once Brilliant has finished processing the catalog.
You can check the progress from Home.
3. Brilliant does not appear on my website. What should I do?
Check that:
- “Brilliant Control Center” is activated and saved in the published theme.
- You clicked Make visible in your store and then Show Brilliant under Home in the Brilliant dashboard.
- The catalog has finished processing.
- You have not reached your plan's monthly conversation limit.
- The customer is browsing from an active market in your eCommerce store.
4. Brilliant is requesting new permissions
Some features may require additional Shopify permissions.
Click Continue in Shopify, review the requested permissions, and accept them to continue.
